    Boots and a Skirt

For this week’s modest fashion inspiration, I chose to wear a pair of timberland boots, paired with a floral skirt and chambray shirt. I do not have the perfect wardrobe; this particular post is an example of that. There are things I would change if I had the time and knowledge to tailor my clothing, or the money to buy all those “pieces” that many blogger says are such a must. And you know what? That’s okay. Some days, I wake up in the morning and stare at my small collection of skirts, shirts, and jeans and wonder, “what on earth am I going to wear?” But that forces me to…

    Butterflies and Bows

Have you ever noticed just how beautiful something as insignificant as a troublesome speck of dust can be? I was walking home from my last class of the day when I saw it. There, just on the crest of the hill–swirling clouds of golden dust. In the distance, I could hear birds singing, if I listened hard enough. God is certainly the most talented of artists. Even the things we hate–like clouds of dust–have beauty! Today’s modest fashion inspiration is an outfit that I am pretty pleased with, considering I didn’t exactly plan it out. Somehow, I only have about four shirts in my closet currently, so I don’t have many options.…

Guest Post: Why You Shouldn’t Fast on Sundays

Hey guys! My name is Brian. I am your fearless blog leader Erin’s husband. I’m guest posting today and I’m very excited about that. This is my second time doing this, the first being a post on one of the Gospels during Advent. This time around I’ll be talking about something a little more specific–why we as Catholics do not fast during Sundays in Lent. Fasting On Sundays: To Fast or Not to Fast? We all know about it. It’s Lent, you’ve been drudging through a long week of penitence and things are really starting to get hard. Then comes Sunday–what a glorious day! You finally get to indulge in…

    Layering with Flannel

I am pretty proud of my layering skills today. Normally, layering is something I really struggle with, but putting this outfit together was cake! In today’s Modest Fashion Inspiration, I am wearing a layered collection of flannels and lace. Layer one, is one of my husband’s blue sleeveless shirts. My camisoles are all dirty, so I just dug through our collective clothes collection and picked something out that was a nice color with the rest of my outfit. I tucked the shirt in because it is huge on me, but the tuck actually added a nice contrast to the rest of my layers. Layer two is a plaid flannel shirt that…

    7 Facts About Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is here! It’s hard for me to believe that it’s Lent already when it feels as if Christmas has only just passed (full disclosure–Brian and I still have our Christmas tree up!!). Besides the Triduum–which is pretty much Lent–Lent is my favorite Church season, and, other than Good Friday, Ash Wednesday is my favorite Mass. Technically, Ash Wednesday is my all-time favorite Mass because Good Friday isn’t actually a Mass (it’s a Service). Ash Wednesday is a Catholic holy day that celebrates the first day of Lent. For the Catholics out there, it is important to note that it is not a holy day of obligation. However, I still highly recommend…

    Skinny Jeans + Chambray Shirt

One of the best parts about being married? Stealing my husband’s clothes. I’m completely joking, of course. But, in all seriousness, I have borrowed Brian’s shirts on more than one occasion. Case in point? This (almost) chambray button up shirt. I think I wear it more than he does. And that’s no joke. In fact, this is the second time I’ve worn it on this blog! The first time was here. Obviously, it would be a lot more flattering if the shirt was tailored to fit me–especially in the back. Somehow, I always end up having lots of extra fabric in my back area! Even without tailoring however, I still think…

    Why is Modesty Important?

Last month, I addressed the question, what is modesty? Today, I want to take what we learned and expand upon it. Namely, I want to talk about why modesty is important. The world has changed a lot in the past few decades. Immodesty has become the norm, but that does not mean that modesty isn’t relevant to today’s society. Modesty is as important as ever, and the need for it is greater than ever before. Modesty is important for several reasons, but in the end it is all about love–love for the people around you, love for God, and love for yourself. Modesty as Love for Those Around You So often,…
