    Fuzzy

I apologize that my images came out rather lackluster today. My trusty wingman (aka husband) was busy so I dusted off my tripod and went solo. And failed. Rather miserably. All of my tripod images turned out rather blurry, dark, and poorly composed. Do any of you have tips or tricks to tripod photography? Because I just can’t figure this one out.

    Christmas at the Rebars’

Brian and I decorated our Christmas tree today. This is our first Christmas together as a married couple, and I’m pretty excited. I’ve still got a little bit of work to do on the house before we leave Sunday to visit family…but decorating is all fun work, so I’m okay with that! Today, I wore a oversized grey sweater, with my skinny jeans and my favorite pair of cozy socks. I was originally planning on getting rid of this sweater because it is designed to fit off the shoulder and is difficult to make modest. But I pulled it out of my give-away bag after a moment of desperation a few…

The Problem with the Victoria Secret Fashion Show

A quick scroll down Twitter last night revealed a plethora of tweets–gathered under a single hashtag–in which girls shamelessly debased their bodies, while binging on ice cream and chicken wings. The hashtag in question? VSFashionShow. The Victoria Secret Fashion Show–which aired last night–is an annual event that seems to have a rather magical ability to inspire both avid fans, and aggressive self-hate. Girls from around the world wait all year to watch the event, and then plop themselves down on the couch with a bucket of ice-cream and a box of tissues when it finally rolls around. Why this show seems to have such an appeal to young woman is a…

    Welcome to December

It was cold outside today. Cold and drear. It snowed yesterday, but today it has warmed up just enough to turn the snow into a slippery sludge. The worst kind of snow. I often feel like the best, and only redeeming quality about the cold is snow. But when the snow is like this–a sloppy porridge which mixes with the dirt and lays about like ice-slick puddles–I begin to wish there isn’t any of it at all. But I should remain positive. Positivity is like sunshine. It keeps the cold away. There are good things about this weather. When the snow is wet and the air biting, I find it…

    Holiday Casual

Brian and I went down to the park before Thanksgiving dinner to take pictures for the blog. I wore a deep maroon party dress I picked up at the Goodwill for 15 dollars several years back. Under it I layered a cream lace crop top—a trend which is inherently immodest, but can be made modest with a little bit of creativity. To make my attire slightly less formal, I wore one of my husband’s button up shirts on top, and tied it at the waist. I wanted something dressy enough for a holiday, but casual enough for the laid-back family environment I celebrated it in. Holiday casual, I guess I…

    Thanksgiving Reflections

I’ll be honest, Thanksgiving has never been my favorite holiday. Don’t get me wrong, food is delicious and I consistently eat too much of it—but I just don’t find that much satisfaction in a holiday that encourages me to eat way more than my sensitive stomach can handle. On top of that, the holiday has always felt a little cheesy to me. People, sitting around a table, reciting to each other the things they are thankful for—a good practice, to be sure, but there seldom seems to be any substance to it. Perhaps it is because Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday that I find I have trouble fully embracing…

    Comparisons

Shivering, I crouched down to capture a photo of a pine cone, nestled in the grass at my feet. I wish I could capture for you the aroma that rushed up to meet me as I bent down, a mixture of wet earth and the sweet scent of decaying leaves. Until technology has been invented that allows for the capture and transportation of scent, however, I will have to make do with what I have. Pictures and words. When I looked at the pictures I took for this week’s blog post, and I couldn’t help but feel a cold twinge of disappointment deep in my gut. Where were the glossy…
