White Swiss Truffle

I’ll be honest. I love hot tea all year ’round. But there’s really nothing like a steaming cup between your chilly fingers in the colder months.

I’ve never been much of a coffee person. In fact, I’ll only drink it when it has enough flavoring to mask the taste. Tea is much more my thing. And I’m okay with that.

There’s something so romantic about a cup of tea. It’s so filled with Victorian elegance, so steeped (forgive the pun) with history, culture, and tradition. Plus there’s the fact that tea and books simply go together, like rain and yellow coats. What’s more comforting than a cup of tea, a book, and a cozy blanket? What’s more soothing than drinking your tea while listening to the sound of rain?

The white swiss truffle tea blend from Cup and Kettle in Leavenworth, Washington is my current favorite. I bought a small, 1 ounce bag of it during my honeymoon over a year ago, and I’ve been carefully guarding it ever since. Really, this stuff is so good I’ve been drinking it only on special occasions. I don’t want it all to go away!

According to the ingredients on the label, this is a rooibos tea that contains white chocolate (in the form of mini chocolate chips!), cacao bean, hazelnut pieces, calendula petals, and natural flavors.

I’ve never had rooibos tea before, so I really couldn’t compare it to other rooibos blends. This blend in particular though is incredibly smooth, with just a hint of sweet (I almost always drink my tea black, and this is no exception). It seems odd to say that liquid has a texture, but this tea totally does. It feels heavy running down my throat, and it my mouth it is delightfully smooth. The texture feels almost like an oil, except it is as fluid as water.

There is something almost musky about the scent. It is very deep, and extremely aromatic–nearly floral, but not quite.

The white chocolate flavor is very subtle, but it definitely gives the tea a nice sweet kick. Even if I were a person to like my tea with sugar, I don’t think I would need it with this tea in particular.

I’ve never tried purchasing tea from Cup and Kettle, but the packaging does say, “we ship” on the front label, so I am assuming this tea is available for purchase remotely. On their website, Cup and Kettle describes this tea as a “rooibos with caramel pieces, calendula petals, cacoa beans, white chocolate flavor and a hint of mint.”

I am myself much like you on this topic. I hate coffee, sometimes can’t even stand the smell of it. Ironically I love very dark chocolate, like 70 & 80% dark, and it has some of the very similar bitter tastes that coffee does. Anyway I love tea.

I used to have a small one or two cup french press from Starbucks that I used to make loose leaf teas and then I accidentally broke it in the sink one day while I was doing dishes. Since then I just haven’t gotten back into loose leaf teas like I used to be and I think that loose leaf is the only way to get REAL GOOD tea; that’s not to say that tea in the traditional bag form is necessarily bad. In general for a basic tea I really like Starbucks Tazo Zen Green Tea.
