Crossing off Dreams
Today was kind of historic.
Some of you may know that I have been working on a novel the past few years, and that I’ve finally finished it and gotten it self-published. That in itself was a huge deal. But the fact didn’t really seem real–tangible–because I only had an ebook, no physical copy.
A few days ago I received a proof copy for review. My first chance to have a book I had written in my hands. The moment was thrilling. Today, the first fifty books arrived.
They filled two medium sized boxes and one smaller box. I opened the packages carefully, remembering to breathe in the scent of fresh ink. I simply love the smell of books. Don’t you?
After that, with a box loaded in the back of the car, we drove to Chapter One Bookstore in Hamilton, MT. My stomach was filled with butterflies as I walked inside. It was easy. A simple piece of paper, and my book was listed for consignment at the store.
The event which I have always considered my greatest dream has taken place. I have seen my book on the shelves of a bookstore. I was beaming as I walked out the door, and onto the sidewalk.
Then I thought, now what? At twenty-four, I have crossed off the single biggest goal I had.
Honestly, I don’t think that’s such a bad place to be.
