No where is this struggle more apparent than the area of swimwear. It is not only the heat that makes covering up unappealing. I’ll admit it. There are a lot of really cute bikinis out there. Generally, it seems to me that the common solution to immodesty at the beach or pool is to throw on an old, oversized t-shirt.
While this certainly works, modest swimwear does not have to be frumpy or unappealing. Here are four ideas for what to wear to the pool or beach while maintaining both modesty and style.
You never know, maybe you’ll inspire someone to ditch their bikini!
Non-cleavage baring tankinis are hard to find, but if you can find one, snap it up! I think that the tankini top makes a perfect addition to a swim skirt. The combo is flattering, easy to swim in, practical, and covers everything that needs coverage. And did I mention really cute??
Modcloth has a line of vintage inspired swimsuits that I really like. They provide full coverage in the rear, the ruching looks very flattering, and I love the extra modesty provided by the skirt flap in the front.
A word of caution about these suits, however: they look to me like they are fairly low-cut (sweetheart neckline). The necklines on these suits are high enough that you smaller busted girls could probably get away with it. I can imagine, however, that a girl with any substantial amount of bust would find that these suits show a bit too much cleavage.
I’ve never tried these suits myself because of the neckline problem — and they are a bit too pricey for something that’s not a sure thing — but if I ever do, I’ll be sure to let you all know if they are problematic! Currently, I am just speculating at a distance (they are beautiful to look at, aren’t they?). If any of you have ever tried Modcloth’s swimwear, please let me know your thoughts in the comment section below!
The picture above is one of their one-piece style suits called “Nicole.” This particular suit looks sort of like a romper, but they also have some suits that look a bit more like traditional swim suits. They also have the prettiest swim dresses I have ever seen!
