Boots and a Skirt

For this week’s modest fashion inspiration, I chose to wear a pair of timberland boots, paired with a floral skirt and chambray shirt.

I do not have the perfect wardrobe; this particular post is an example of that. There are things I would change if I had the time and knowledge to tailor my clothing, or the money to buy all those “pieces” that many blogger says are such a must. And you know what? That’s okay.

Some days, I wake up in the morning and stare at my small collection of skirts, shirts, and jeans and wonder, “what on earth am I going to wear?” But that forces me to be creative. It forces me to think outside the box. Yes, it is true that I don’t own enough pieces to create what I envision as the perfect “look.” But it is also true that I am grateful for what I have.

Whenever you look at celebrities, the media, or even blogs, it is important to keep perspective. The images you see are often heavily curated, and sometimes, not even fully real.  I enjoy fashion and beautiful things, and I believe that it has value…to a point. In the end, however, we should remember that there are more meaningful things in this world. Style is fun, artistic, and helps us to outwardly perceptualize our inner world. But it shouldn’t be all we think about.

For the Sake of Practice (and fun), Let’s Dissect the Positives and Negatives of this Outfit

First, this skirt is a tad too long. It makes my legs look chunky by falling right at my calf when instead, it should hit me just above or just below the knee. Finding a skirt that is both modest and flattering can definitely be a challenge. In the future, I might pull out my sewing machine and hem this one.

The shirt is also, obviously too big for me. It’s my husband’s shirt, and if you’ve been following this blog for awhile, you will have noticed that I’ve worn it several times. Sometimes, I like wearing his shirts/sweaters because I really enjoy the over-sized look. In this particular case, a chambray shirt in my own size would have worked much better.

I do, however, really like the color combinations here. The cranberry of the skirt and the light blue of the shirt really pops.
