Layering with Flannel
I am pretty proud of my layering skills today. Normally, layering is something I really struggle with, but putting this outfit together was cake! In today’s Modest Fashion Inspiration, I am wearing a layered collection of flannels and lace.
Layer one, is one of my husband’s blue sleeveless shirts. My camisoles are all dirty, so I just dug through our collective clothes collection and picked something out that was a nice color with the rest of my outfit. I tucked the shirt in because it is huge on me, but the tuck actually added a nice contrast to the rest of my layers.
Layer two is a plaid flannel shirt that I picked up on Black Friday earlier this year. I’ve been wanting a plaid shirt for awhile now, so when I saw one on sale, I snagged it! Button up shirts, I am finding, are great layering pieces because they can be worn so many ways! You can wear it open, buttoned up, tied at the waist, or tie the arms around your hips (I can’t believe that look is back in style, can you?).
Layer three is a olive green anorak coat–an item I’ve worn on this blog multiple times. It’s my go-to coat because it is so comfy, and also because it seems to match everything. I really like it with the salmon pink of my plaid. I wore the coat open so the flannel could be seen peeking out. I also pulled the sleeves of my flannel shirt out past the sleeves of my coat to add an unexpected extra pop of color. On top of it all, I threw on my lace scarf, a pair of skinny jeans, and my tall boots. The only thing I would have added to this outfit is a belt and maybe some jewelry (neither of which I have, but oh well!).

I’m impressed with your layering skills, Erin! In fact, you just inspired me to do yet another post (a tutorial on layering). I might as well make my official muse with all the inspiration you provide. Love your hair too!
