Winter is a great time to cozy up on the couch and get some reading done. Cold weather always makes me want to curl up with a good book and a cup of tea.
I’m going to be completely honest. It took a little bit of inner gumption to post today’s outfit photos online. I’ve put on a little weight over the past year or so and I’ve been really struggling with it. Recently, it’s been a bit worse. The holiday season has passed, and it left behind several extra pounds–all in the wrong places. In this set of pictures, it shows. And that kills me.
I’m posting these pictures despite all of that. I realize that weight is something a lot of women struggle with, and I want each of you to know you are not alone.
I also want to fight against the inclination to follow most of the other fashion blogs I see on the internet. Popular fashion blogs show us images of women dressed in beautiful clothing, living lives most of us could never have. Luxurious, flashy, exotic lives. I don’t like the curated images I see on the internet. This blog is not a place for that.
I feel like, a lot of times, people tend to create a false version of themselves to post online–or post only the best sides of themselves. I don’t want to do that. Modesty isn’t only about what you wear, it is also about the heart. I want to be real with you guys. I don’t want to show simply my best angles and my best days and make my life seem like something it’s not. I want to post pictures of myself reading to inspire others to pick up a book, outdoors to inspire people to step outside, or dressing modestly to inspire modesty. I want to post pictures of myself at a weight that makes me slightly uncomfortable, to inspire people to feel more comfortable about their own bodies.
Today’s outfit features the newest addition to my wardrobe–a pair of boyfriend jeans! I’ve admired this style from afar for quite some time now, but haven’t been able to find a pair that fit me quite right or that I could afford. When I saw this pair on sale at Macy’s I knew I had to get them! They are the comfiest pair of jeans I’ve ever had, and the loose fit makes modesty very easy. Plus, they are really in style right now!
I bought this pair of jeans to wear during the spring/summer because those are the seasons I see this type of jean worn most. However, I just couldn’t wait! I’m currently in the process of experimenting and trying to figure out how to style them for winter. Maybe, if I get a handle on it, I’ll write a post on what I figure out! This particular outfit worked out quite well, I think.
From what I’ve figured out so far, the trick to pulling off boyfriend jeans is to pair them with a more fitted top, and feminine accessories. This balances out the baggy, masculine silhouette of the jeans.

Same jeans here. Note: They run really small. I normally wear a size 8. Here I am wearing a size 4 and they fit perfectly. Not that I’m complaining.
The cardigan I am wearing is around five years old, so I highly doubt the same one is carried anymore. In case anyone is interested, however, the brand is Pink Rose. I am wearing a medium.
My t-shirt is a v-necked Merona brand t-shirt from Target (the ones that are folded, not the ones that are hanging). I am wearing a size small.
I made the hair bow myself. They are pretty simple to make, but if you aren’t very crafty, I would recommend Etsy. I’ve seen a lot of really cute bows there.
