Welcome to December

IMG_3666

It was cold outside today. Cold and drear. It snowed yesterday, but today it has warmed up just enough to turn the snow into a slippery sludge. The worst kind of snow. I often feel like the best, and only redeeming quality about the cold is snow. But when the snow is like this–a sloppy porridge which mixes with the dirt and lays about like ice-slick puddles–I begin to wish there isn’t any of it at all. But I should remain positive. Positivity is like sunshine. It keeps the cold away.

There are good things about this weather. When the snow is wet and the air biting, I find it hard to remember that the span between late fall and early winter is my favorite season, and December my favorite month.

I love December because it is cozy. Thick sweaters. Soft, heavy blankets. Scarves that wrap ’round and ’round your neck until your face is half covered and your nose is warm. Coats that are so long in the sleeves only your fingers poke out. The crackle of a fireplace and the sporadic clicking of a baseboard heater.

I love December because of the smells. The subtle, woody spice of a Christmas tree. Food, baking in the oven. Cinnamon scented pinecones. The heady aroma of a holiday candle. The deep, aromatic notes of incense during Mass on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning.

In my opinion, December is the most romantic month. It absolutely tops the touted February in my mind. It is beautiful. Serene. Twinkling. Magic.

These are things I must remember when I am cold and wet. I need to remember to look for the beauty in everything. Even on days when it is hard to find.

Get the Look

Today I wore my favorite anorak style, olive green jacket over a grey cardigan and black t-shirt. The shirt I wore is normally one of my p.j. tops, but I was in such a hurry to get out the door for pictures today that I didn’t have time to choose something else! Which is okay. I think the gold horses were a nice touch.

This scarf I just picked up last week at Fred Meyers. I’ve been looking for a plaid scarf, and this one is perfect! It’s super cozy too, and crazy soft.

I chose to wear my jacket open to show off the cascade style of my cardigan. It created a nice layering effect. I paired the look with my brown boots–because they are water proof–and a messy side braid.

I can’t post links to the items right now because my internet keeps freezing every time I try to open more than one window. However, I will update this post as soon as I have solved the problem. For now:

Anorak Jacket–Kohl’s

Plaid scarf–Fred Meyers

Boots–Kohl’s

Cardigan–Aeropostale

T-Shirt–I have no idea. I’ve had it since I was like 10

I love your outfit. I miss being able to wear jeans on a regular basis. While I’m not a huge fan of December weather the Christmas season keeps me going. I’m all about the scarves, jackets and sweaters.

      Hey thanks! 😀

Scarves, jackets, and sweaters are the best! I love warm things. That’s mostly why I enjoy the cold. Because it gives me an excuse to cuddle up in something warm. Heat just makes me irritable. lol And Christmas season makes everything so much more wonderful. Honestly, once December is finished, I’m pretty much over winter.
